Why Your Support Is Needed
As President of the Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library, I want to thank you for your support of our Friend’s chapter.
Some people may feel that they pay taxes and therefore shouldn't have to do anything more to have a high-quality library system. Ideally, tax revenue should cover this basic service.
However, in San Diego at the current time, tax revenue is insufficient to fund the level of Library services that San Diegans need and expect. During the pandemic we waived the 2021 membership fees but continued to support as many programs that the RB Library could offer during that unusual time. In fact, the Rancho Bernardo Library has been consistently at the top of the circulation volume in the city. And during the COVID pandemic our library has been a source of support to our Rancho Bernardo community.
Once the Friends of the RB Library provides funding for programming, our Rancho Bernardo Branch then receives matching funds from the City of San Diego's General Fund, which is funded primarily by the small percentage of your property and sales taxes that does not go to the State, County, or education.
Therefore, to maintain the past level of programming, private support - from our library volunteers, Friends group, and individuals - makes the difference between what the library could provide if it relied solely on tax revenue and the excellent programs and services it does provide for our region.
What You Can Do to Support the RB Library
Now it is time to show your support for the Friends and, more importantly, to our Rancho Bernardo Library. Here are some ways in which to do that:
We need you to renew your 2022 membership. Please remember that there are several options for membership to consider:
- Individual membership is $10.00
- Couple is $15.00
- Family is $20.00
- Sponsor is $50.00
Please see all the levels of membership at: friendsoftherblibrary.org
Membership has its benefits. With your membership:
- You can borrow hot new best sellers from the Friends Lending Library, often before they’re available from the library’s collection.
- You pay half-price in the Friends’ bookshop, all day every day.
- You pay a special lower price per bag of books at our quarterly bag sales.
- You receive the Friends Newsletter, keeping you in the know.
- You have a variety of opportunities to volunteer and make new friends while you help.
If you would like to donate, please drop a check off at the library, made out to: Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library or use the Friends of the RB Library website to donate. All your financial support stays in Rancho Bernardo, and thanks to matching funds, the RB Library receives an additional 50 Cents for every dollar the Friends organization contributes.
Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and our EIN #95-3786265.
If you find that you have time to volunteer and would like to contribute to the support of our library, please consider becoming more involved with the Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library. The effects of the pandemic have left us in need of volunteers in many areas but especially on our Board. In particular, we are looking for a Webmaster and a Board Secretary. In addition, the Concert Committee is looking to add more members.
Your contributions of time and talent can make a difference.
In addition, please consider volunteering in a smaller non-board manner through:
- Advocating for the RB Library
- Book sorting
- Bookshop sales
- Membership Development
- Special Events
- Working on the concert committee

The Difference Your Help Makes
The Friends provide time and money to enable our Library to purchase up-to-date materials including:
- Electronic databases and eBooks
- Periodical subscriptions
The Friends also provide funds to:
- upgrade and replace equipment
- provide programs like READ/San Diego
- RB Library's adult literacy program
- children's programming
- Summer Reading Program
These are just a few of the things that simply wouldn't happen without the generous support of the Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library.
Again, thank you for your support of the Friends of the Rancho Bernardo library.
