Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library, an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, provides critical financial support enabling the RB branch of the San Diego Public Library to thrive and serve our community vibrantly. Since 2001, the Friends has raised over $400,000 in support.
How much difference does this support really make? Do your kids attend children’s art programs? Participate in the Summer Reading Program? Attend Story Time? Have you ever attended an Oasis program at the Library, or other adult programs like Hatha Yoga or the Writers’ Group? ALL paid for by the Friends! If you’ve used the Leased Collection (best sellers and DVDs which can’t be borrowed by other branches), you should know that we pay for that too as well as other adult materials and children’s paperbacks.
And then there are the chamber music and jazz concerts organized and funded by the Friends, with the help of voluntary donations from concertgoers, which are totally outside the $400,000. Lots of people power goes into making this support possible. In 2018 alone, 70 enthusiastic Friends volunteers and Board members contributed 5,600 hours of their time.
As you can see, our beloved Rancho Bernardo Library would be a very different place if it weren’t for the Friends! The City of San Diego budget provides for the basics, the community steps up for excellence. We invite you to join us in supporting the library by donating, becoming a member and/or volunteering.
